The novel has been published in two editions - the first in 1982 and the second in 2005. It offers an authentic recollection of childhood experiences before and during the Second World War, portraying the harrowing events at the onset and throughout the first year of the war in the Kozara region and Potkozarje. Through his narrative, Karan bears witness to the horrific realities of war: brutal torture, killings, and the persecution of innocent Serbs -including girls, boys, women, men, and the elderly.
